So slice of narrative for you ~ here in the sCruz, hamlet of Aptos … there’s a wee jumpy park that shifts darkly between freeform and city sanctioned. The runup to the sweet jumps was on a much(er) used paved road with red mini’s and station wagons of idolators to the silicon gods rampaging up and through, blind to hops.

but still, we may not start our sweet jumps from the hood of a 5pm “commuter” … so, somebody with authority posted a sign and there was some mention of the place getting leveled for safety reasons.

that’s when this dude in turquoise … this easy bit of hotness named Cameron stepped in with a cat from Granite construction and humped over 40 truckloads of dirt to the location to try and sweep it up into a bowl of respectability.

here’s hoping they do … work it out with the locals and keep all the sweet jumps available for madness, out of cars’ range.

stuff can get fixed, if we take a few steps.

[PS laura sanchez should be superintendent of monterey]

and if you wanna check who Cameron is …

I was out there the other day (heading to the PO across the street) around 3 ish and there was some kind of organized event and it looked like the locals were enjoying the show…they do have to cross cathedral to start the first jump though which looks like a hazard–BUT–every time I’ve seen them out there, someone seems to be enforcing (whether self inforced or as for this event they actually had a person standing off watching for traffic) and the riders seem to be pretty good about waiting until all is clear. If they can keep this up and let the local neighborhood know that responsibility is taking place, with some good advocacy, then i really hope this keeps up,

cuz one things for sure, it’s a sweet park out there no matter what size! and very entertaining!!!

I live right by those dirt jumps and can see them from my back deck. I was super impressed on Monday at the talent and organization of those folks, but the #1 thing that impressed me that day was Lainey Aldridge. She’s like 17, she races downhill, cross country and cross, and there she was hanging with the big boys, hitting the big jumps. She was the only girl I saw. Amazing.

Wow… I hope you have a sedimentation and erosion control plan in place!!! Did you get a permit for moving all that dirt???

I really think there needs to be proper permits before this jump thing can progress. I feel this area needs to be fully demolished and the kids need to learn a lesson about respecting the area and going about these things in the proper manner.

I am going to put a call into Granite Con. to find out who is involved with this.

Yeh, I agree with CM. Shouldn’t these kids be out doing drugs or begging for money anyway?

I hope CM is a joke. If not then CM is likely someone with a stick up there ass about not being able to get laid until they were 28. Now they take it out on the world with the little power they possess…

I took this at last years day after Sea Otter Post Office Dirt Jam. I watched from noon to sunset last year and did the same this year. Hopefully I will be able to do the same next year.

I feel that the kids smoke dope and do jumping and I have seen the kids smoke dope and drink beer and do those jumps, so I will contact Granite and the City Planner and offer my idea of closing this place. I think it is best.

Just an FYI – I grew up w/ kids that smoked dope, and played baseball, football, basketball and hockey…so for completeness’s sake, let’s plow under all the baseball, and football fields, basketball courts and (few though they may be in N.Cal) hockey rinks…just breeding ground for god-less (commie) dope smoking.

…ummmm, and wasn’t the the local minister in Aptos got busted for DUI…let’s plow under the churches and roads as well.

      Miopically yours…

sorry dude, but if they’re smokin’ and irresponsible (besides being youth), the responsiblity rests w/ their parents and the other adults in there likes. Giving kids a physical outlet is generally a deterent…even if it’s not your favorite sport.
