- drove to work - it sucks, but that’s my option. and … weirdly enough, there was more car traffic than normal.
- got in work to see that yesterday afternoon someone stole the office commuter i had placed in the office for the staff’s “preventative medicine and peg’ing fun” use.i guess it’s wealth redistribution, and i’m cool with that.
still, i loved that bike.
- got my OTHER bike out of the car and rode down to the “FREE BREAKFAST” in downtown sCruz to celebrate bike2workDay.there were a bunch of people milling about, and i just headed over to the nasty, exposed sun-sitting bagels left on a table with requisite giant industrio-size tub o’ creamed cheese (i think) and sighed … ‘oh well, it’s for a good cause.’
as i reached down to pick up a stale’ishly sliced bagel, crumbs fumbling at fingers touch ~
“DID YOU FILL OUT THE FORM?”
whaa.. i’m sorry?
“DID YOU FILL OUT THE SURVEY? YOU CAN’T HAVE THAT UNTIL YOU FILL IT OUT OVER THERE…”
thanks. and i dropped, left, bought new ones at mcNoah’s.
thanks for bike to work day.
i’m outta here. time to ride.

I think the problem was the whole “Bike to Work” premise. Now, if it were “Bike to Beach” day…

Someone stole the commuter! Damn that sucks.

Sounds like Hippietown got this one wrong.
I wonder if your B2Work Day experience would have been different if you had actually biked to work. Hmm…Karma?
Nomie parked beater truck at work last night, rode home, rode back to work this morning.
Dropped by Dublin BART for very fresh and tasty bagels, a little Starbucks coffee, and a nice bag of goodies.
One including a free Chipotle Burrito coupon.
Even found two bars of Artisan Dark Chocolate in the bag.
I’ll share one with Mrs. Nome with a nice Port this evening.

Scroogy McGrinch, man!
Ok, having a bike stolen is the worst. Big sympathy there.
But a lot of my regular commuting buddies had good rides today with no-hassle scones (kept in the shade!), fresh fruit, and I did see a lot of new people out
It’s the new people out that are the point, but I’m amazed the station at SCruz had a high hassle factor. Just give people some fruit and let them take a breather! Bike commuting is supposed to be lower stress after all
Anyway, hope you get a steam-blowing-off-type lunch ride in
May 15th, 2008 at
steam about to be blowed!
it’s perfect weather here in the sCruz. i’m going up to poach some trails for an extended lunch ride away from businesses, global competitors, and oppressively accurate npr reporting.
bike on!

Hope it stays cool for your lunch blow-off ride!
It’s hot here in Mountain View. I did my “workout” on the way to work when it was “cooler” and even then, I almost lost my breakfast. BLEAH. I can just noodle on the way home now, but it’s gonna be a scorcher.
And I saw a TON of cars on the road this morning. I noticed a bunch of single-occupancy vehicles sitting in traffic and felt… guilty. Not guilty today, but guilty in general. I gotta start carpooling…

I’ll be doin’ it in the heat to get to my afternoon office hours out the hottest of the hot - Concord! Probably not even a stale bagel for me… of course I already guzzled gas shuttling kids around. Saw a few bike2workers and an aid station in San Ramon on Iron Horse trail.
Nomie, did the choco-bars turn to hot chocolate?
May 15th, 2008 at
You fucking cynic! I drove my car and took the long way so I could throw stale bagels at all the “new” people trying to bike to work. Who’s the cynic now?
May 15th, 2008 at
Damn, I wake up on BTW day and it’s like Xmas! I get to work how I ALWAYS get to work except i have a lot more company and free shit along the way…
Doesn’t get better than that.
My gripe is that it’s Bike to Work DAY. They’re all back in their cars tomorrow trying to run my ass down.

The bagels in SF were not stale &
they had coffee and coffee cake and cupcakes too.
I gained 2 pounds on the way to work.
SFBC ROCKS!
May 15th, 2008 at
bagels? screw that.
yet another reason oakland is better.
we got PANCAKES!
May 15th, 2008 at
I had a good experience for BTW day. They just wanted to know where I started and then they started handing me stuff: a t-shirt, goodie bag, and I even got a nice all-in-one tool. No blinky lights, though.
The food was minimal - water, bananas and some tiny chocolates and clif bars, but the service made up for it. It’s gonna be a furnace on the way home - could get up to 100 F out near Walnut Creek.
May 15th, 2008 at
damn… I rode to the wrong places. All I got was warm fluids from my water bottles and a bag o’ corn nuts.
BETH- were’d you score pancakes?

Total bunk about the commuter getting stolen - that sux! Yeah, we’re celebrating bike to work week here in the Chico scene……we’ll see what happens the other 51 weeks out of the year.
