we appreciate all the calls about the fire.  we’ve got lodging for the night and the important things are safe (kitties).  Sabine pushed aside a news crew to get them out.

she’s so badass.  but, she says the fire looks to be moving away from the house, at least.

    others, not so lucky.

    -

again, thanks for checking in with us.  hope all the neighbors are safe.  we’ll update as we can from burn central.

    -

and it’s not even June yet.

I left for work this morning not knowing how serious the fire was. Came back home and they wouldn’t let us back up the road. So I grabbed my bike and rode in. Got the cats and my laptop and thats about it. Had to make a choice of which bike to take out. No one should have to make such a choice.

      I chose the Dawg.

But I want to race tomorrow night, so might make Michael risk life and limb to get my Pista.

And there will probably be a lot of questions about initial response to the fire.

You might use Jens bike…52 bianchi. It’s set up small for a 52.
      Let Jen know!

As I drifted off to lala land in class today, I was weighing in my daydream which bike you would salvage if forced to choose. I picked right!

Glad all is well for now…the smoke will make for pretty sunsets. Too bad its at such an expense for so many.

I’m sure the lappie rode out in the case (shoulder strap) but two kats on the dawg? In a gunny sack? Do tell!

We’ve got at least one cat carrier crate thingies. Need it?

Oh! And if you ever shop at Gayle’s bakery, go on there and tell them thanks!

They came to Corralitos and dropped off a bunch of cookies, croissants and other goodies for the people evacuating. A local church was passing out water, coffee and sandwiches and allowing people to use their restrooms. This was about 3 hours earlier than the first Red Cross presence.

I got a ride back down with my neighbor. Caught him just as he was leaving.

My other neighbor is staying until he sees embers.

      Sabine,

I’m so glad that everyone’s safe and sound. Let me know if there’s anything I can do. And you are more than welcome to my brand new (just got it 2 hours ago) Pista. It’s a 53. Give me a call or an email and I can get it to you.

Sabine and Michael–Glad you and your kitties are safe. Hope your house is spared…hang in there! Some of my good friends are waiting and ready to evacuate if necessary-they are on Loma Prieta.

This fire season is starting mighty early.

Man, the first thing I thought about when I heard your hood was on fire was “jeez, I hope that gey Messican Poet Fegg is ok…work would suck without his musings”. Glad to hear you and the family are ok!

    24. May 22, 2008 at

Oh boy – I am glad to hear you guys are OK! Which bike to take? That is quite a question, I don’t know which I would choose. I hope all of yours are ok and you’re reunited soon :)
