California burnout
oh lawdy, lawdy ~ for any bike riders on the LeftCoast this looks to be one of those seasons where 90% of the racers will be ending their year in … April. The weather has been all color-me-global-warming this ‘winter’ and, though the midwest will hate us for it, there are bucketloads of wattmeters burning redhot from blokes and sheilas out there soaking up the sun like raisins and pedaling free and clear of warmers, booties, or anything close to resembling gortex.
brrr…
So, if you’re one of those cats who’s been patient and studiously laying the groundwork for your summer campaign, hungry for the ‘real’ season to begin … well, get ready to suck it up for these next two months of bike racing in Cali ~ cuz’ folks, there’s gonna be some roman candles pedaling white-hot like phosphorous for awhile.
Many of the February races are already chock full of sold-out e-reg’d fields of fury, ensuring fat and happy promoters and ugly as sin start/finish areas with peacocks pinning up numbers and clogging thru-ways with chatter of ‘duuuude … did you see my sprint?’
And so, if you’re one of those old-skoolers who uses the waning winter months to finish off the base-building and rev-up your excitement energies towards what the rest of the world sees as the racing season …

thats my Harvey Bear climbing song on the Crackpod
Couldn’t agree more on the weather and the fitness. The start of the season is going to be insane.
Save some for the track racing this summer!
And what will probably happen is we will get pounded by consecutive storms in the spring and be doing crits and rr in the rain
damn straight.
As long as “suck it up” refers to winervals, I’m there! I’m going Old skool this year. See ya in March!
If I become dictator, I’m declaring the start date on every race on the NCNCA calendar will be delayed 28 days. Sanity restored. Then I’ll resign and assign Hernando to replace me.
