2010 NCNCA Elections – how they’re working
by HERNANDO!!! • October 23, 2009 • too random • 3 Comments
Thanks for sending this information to folks you think would be interested in our region’s current NCNCA elections. I’m not sure how much outreach we’ve done to NCNCA Club members – but, I’m hoping that every club in our region will voice their vote and participation in this year’s election. Our region extends from Redding to Chico, over to northern Nevada/Reno, down the central valley through the Fresno areas, and over back west to the pacific, just north of San Luis Obispo.
NCNCA Club representatives vote over email, or at the November 2nd NCNCA meeting (ncncna.org). I’ve outlined some resources for you to make your voice known in how the NCNCA will grow and improve in 2010. Thanks again for sharing this information.

Importance of this election
This year’s election marks a transition period where long-working Casey Kerrigan retires as head of many NCNCA offices, programs and responsibilities. Casey and the current NCNCA officers have outlined a very good plan to delegate and expand NCNCA governance responsibilities and services to its members through this transition period.
I am running for Vice President of the NCNCA this year, and ask you to consider me as your club’s choice when your representative votes. I also am a strong supporter of Lorri Lee Lown’s candidacy for President of the NCNCA. She is the current NCNCA Treasurer and has been instrumental in improving the financial health of the NCNCA. I firmly believe she is the strongest candidate for the NCNCA President in 2010 and hope you will consider voting for us both.
Thanks for letting people know how NCNCA elections work.
Regards,
Michael Hernandez

Vice-President of NCNCA – Michael Hernandez candidacy statement
The duties of the Vice President of the NCNCA are especially appealing to me because they focus on rider development (managing upgrade requests and special grants). This parallels my “real” work with SACNAS.org – where I manage our mentoring programs for under-represented minorities advancing in higher-education and industry STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and math).
As a participant in NorCal/Nevada racing – I have been a racer at the UCI, NRC, and grassroots racing levels. As a promoter, I have experience since 2000 promoting road, cyclocross, mtb, and track events for youth, elite, and collegiate populations. I currently promote the Friday Night Hellyer Velodrome races and a week-day instructional series. As an announcer, I have worked races and regions from Chico to San Luis Obispo. I have also announced for the Tour of California Women’s Criterium in ’08, and the Tour of California Junior’s Criterium in ’09.
Aside from my ‘enthusiasm’ while announcing – feedback I receive from racers and spectators is that I know a lot of, and about, riders in many different racing categories though out the regions of NorCal.
If elected Vice President of the NCNCA – I believe my familiarity with the races, regions, and individuals of our district will be very effective in processing upgrade requests and communicating to riders NCNCA procedures and requirements.
I also have experience with directing elite and professional teams at the NRC and UCI level –such as the UCI Tour of Pennsylvania (Pennsylvania Lightning U-25 Team) and NRC events like Tour of Tulsa and Liberty Classic (Vanderkitten Women’s Pro Cycling). I am also an official with USACycling.
If elected Vice President of the NCNCA – I believe my experience with rider development programs throughout NorCal and Nevada will give me an opportunity to be a strong advocate for special grants identified and selected to assist the many great programs at work around our region. I look forward to working to build the special grants capacity of the NCNCA.
Thanks for any feedback or questions, and appreciate the consideration – and thanks for taking a look at more of my candidacy views on the ncnca forums (here’s my position on improving rider participation for events).
Regards,
Michael Hernandez

props for all those running.
I have always wondered if the elected officials of Local Associations are financially compensated as someone told me they weren’t? It looks like a ton of work and would only hope that USA Cycling would offer some sort of financial compensation.
good luck to all.
i don’t know if there’s any money changing hands, CFan. as i’ve been dinged for my anti-capitalist rants in the past … i’ll wait for a current officer to give good info
and thanks for participating in the vote, and important votes to come.
m
there is a small bit of compensation for each officer and BOD member — peanuts, really. this is paid by the LA, not USAC.
