Fastest lap of the day gets $50.

hellyer_velodrome_derbyteamsprints.jpgTeamDerbySprints!”

3 to 6 rollers of the same team will race a team time trial (recommend 3 to 5 rollers for this first exhibition event). Each lap, one roller will exit the track. The final lap will have only the final rider for the team finishing the final lap. Time recorded when the team’s final roller crosses the finish line.

Description:
- Entire Team lines up for standing start at Start/Finish line.
- Whistle starts event, all team rollers start.
- Each lap, FIRST roller to reach the cone that delineates “Drop-Zone” MUST pull off track.
- The Drop-Zone Cone is 25 meters before the Start/Finish line. The roller that reaches that cone first MUST exit the track before the Start/Finish line.

Team Derby Rules n’ stuff:

Drop-Zone etiquette: Each lap, the FIRST roller that reaches the Drop-Zone Cone must pull off the track ~ meaning she safely drops to the left, down track - easily rolling on to the blue-band, and then the inside apron that parallels the track surface. It’s super easy. The remaining TeamRollers will continue, repeating the Drop-Zone etiquette until the team’s final roller is on track.

normal_rollerderby-poster.jpgRollers may throw (”whip”) teammates at ANYTIME in TeamDerbySprints ~ and innovative strategies to increase speed of teams are encouraged.

But remember, it’s a TEAM event - individual speed means nothing if the team doesn’t have the overall fastest time, again ~ measured by the team’s final roller crossing the finish line.

Rules MUST be adhered to:

  1. FIRST roller to reach the Drop-Zone Cone must exit the track before reaching the Start/Finish line using Drop-Zone Etiquette (penalty of supreme heckling)
  2. TIME is taken on FINAL remaining team derby roller as they cross finish line. Team minimum is 3 rollers (1 kilometer event) - maximum is 6 (2 kilometer event). We’d like as many teams as possible - but, again this is an exhibition event for fun and to see if we can partner up for more events in the future!!!

$50 to fastest team of the night.

EVENTUALLY - we could have 2 teams racing each other on the track: starting on opposite ends.
GREAT SPECTATOR POTENTIAL!

**Please note: we’ll also have an “All-comers” Indie-Sprint for anyone with blades/skates/& hutzpah to get out there and go for 1-lap of madness. We’ll time them and hopefully the DerbyGirls will bring recruiting materials!

hope to see you there!

So the roller event is women only? Is it just roller skates or can one use roller blades?

    Thanks for question, anony.

Roller Derby sprints are for RollerDerby women only.

However, the All-Comers 1-lap sprint is for any and all, blades or skates.

Eventually, we’d like to explore the option of having roller blade workouts/races at the Velodrome. The overlap with cycling and skating is pretty significant … so, that may happen.

The RollerDerby action is for women only, and very much an exhibition to both increase attention to RollerDerby fun and Hellyer Velodrome as a place where we might be able to have some types of Roller Derby events.

ok … so, bottom line is - if you want to race the All-Comers 1-lap sprint … bring it!
    thanks for more questions,
    m

    Thank you m.

My name is Tammy Thomasman. I will be the one with the black wig, um I mean hair. Nevermind my buldging thighs and the thick hair on my legs, I have a genetic disorder and it is the off season. The adams apple will be a glue-on to intimidate the competition….. and rollerblades it is.
