2009 BASP CX Series all Zzzziped Up

basp.jpgSan Mateo’s Coyote Point park is a fine playground for cyclocross racin’, the cold weather and threatening clouds did not keep the cool kidz home this Sunday. Those nice folks Pilarcitos Cyclesports taped it up all pretty so that we could throw down proper for the 5th and final race in the Bay Area Super Prestige (BASP) CX Series.

One day races are fun but the glory ends right there. ‘Series’ races are cool because you get drama drawn out over time. Riders show up and fight for something and they don’t give in till the final results are up. It was fun watching the action unfold between Josh Sneed (HRS Rocklobster) and his teammate Chris McGovern (HRS Rocklobster) as they were both tied in points for the Category A overall and continued to duke it out.

mea.jpgIn the end, you can find yourself in a few happy places like podium #1 for having a good race du jour or podium #2 for having a solid showing in the overall series or both if you’re a rock star like women’s A racers Karen Brems (Webcor Builders), Kerry Barnholt (Scott/Ritchey), and Stella Carey (HRS Rocklobster).

And then of course, there are the Don Myrahs and Steve Reaneys of the sport who turn themselves inside out twice in one day by doing the Masters 35 A’s and the Elite A races. I swear, these two never seem to get tired. Sheesh, maybe it’s some extra muscle they developed from climbing on that podium week after week.
