USAC Cyclo-cross National Championships
Verona, Wisconsin – Day 1
By all accounts, it was a relatively “balmy” day in Verona, venue for the USAC 2012 Cyclocross National Championships outside Madison, Wisconsin. Little to no snow on the ground and high temperatures in the mid-30s…the fear of frozen tundra for CX Nats may have to wait another year. Early in the day the ground was hard and frozen but became muddy as ‘crossers in the non-championship races warmed up the soil.
The afternoon saw the Singlespeed Championship races for women and men. Kari Studley (Team Redline) dominated her race to take the Women’s National Championship crown, with Megan Korol second and Lauri Webber in third. Three racers from Bay 101/HRS/Rocklobster came in the top ten for the Men’s race: Alex Work in seventh, Scott Chapin in fourth, and Aaron Bradford as the winner. Aaron becomes the National Champion to better his third place in the same event from last seasons Singlespeed Championships. Men’s second place went to JT Fountain with Michael Gaertner (Coeur d’Alene Velo Racers/Vertical Earth) finishing in third place.
