• San Dimas SR Best Young Rider: Lindsay Myers

    by  • March 19, 2012 • interviews

NorCal had a great showing at San Dimas this weekend with a AJM scoring a win for Kenda Pro Cycling in the mens race, and Lindsay Myers taking the Best Young Rider jersey for TIBCO.  I was able to catch up with Myers quickly before she tackles Redlands later in the week.

How did San Dimas go for you?

There were some great aspects of San Dimas, as well as some aspects we were able to learn from as a team.  The TT there suited me, and I was happy with my result.  I’ve been juggling school full time as well as training, so it was a confidence booster to know my fitness is coming and it’s working balancing the two.  During the circuit race, the good was that I made the break, the bad was that I was not able to hang with the break.  From a team aspect, we can take away some lessons learned and improve for Redlands.  We will have a slightly different team for Redlands, with the addition of some girls that just got back from racing in Europe.  We have a strong team and I’m really looking forward to strong teamwork.

You grabbed the Best Young Rider jersey – was that the goal for the race?

That was a plus!  I really didn’t know how to judge my fitness coming into this race because I haven’t done much racing yet, so I was surprised to see I was up there after the TT.  Tayler Wiles had a very strong TT, getting her the jersey, but unfortunately was not able to finish the circuit race because of getting involved in a crash.  I will look forward to trying to get more young rider jerseys throughout the year.

What are your racing plans for the next few months?

My next race is Sea Otter, then Gila.  I’ve never done Gila, I am looking forward to a new racing experience there.  Over the next few months and throughout these races, what I really want to focus on is leaning how to be a good teammate.  This is my first year on a top team where I know I am strong enough to really help.

Do you have any return European adventures planned?

I might be able to get to Europe later this summer, but I will unfortunately miss the TIBCO trips this spring because of my school schedule.  We have some girls heading over straight after Redlands, I will be cheering them on!

Your on solid footing with a major team again with TIBCO. Hows that working out?

I’m really happy to be a part of TIBCO.  We all had a great time at camp, it was fun getting to know all the girls.  The group of girls Linda put together this year is very cohesive.  We have strong support, and we are lucky to have Angela Smoorenburg as our director.  We can learn a lot from her experience and leadership.
