• “In the meantime, I ride/race vicariously thru my friends” – Jennifer Phillips

From her hospital bed, while recovering from broken bones, Jennie Phillips (Kovarus/Wells Fargo Racing Team) writes “I will completely heal from this.”  The crash, that has taken Ms. Phillips away, temporarily, from bicycle racing, occurred at last weekend’s Topsport Road Race. Other victims of the same crash were Rikke Preisler (Metromint Cycling), “helicoptered” away because of a concussion and suspected broken bone, and Jane Despas (Unattached), suffering a cracked helmet, black eye, and unable to finish her race.

It is to their credit that these XX-ers display such passion and dedication for their sport following an injury. The day after the crash, Ms. Despas registered to race at this weekend’s Copperopolis and rode 75 miles. Ms. Priesler has already chosen one of two races for her return, Wente RR or Cat’s Hill. Ms Phillips, broken bones and all, is counting the weeks to get back on a trainer. This article is not to belabour the point that local cyclists, of either gender, are tough as nails, which I should add, they are. Instead, this is to reinforce the bravery and commitment of cyclists in the NorCal community.

NorCal Cycling is looking forward to seeing all three racing again and wishes speedy recoveries to all of those injured whilst racing.
