“Rising from Ashes”, ( http://risingfromashesthemovie.com) a feature length documentary from Director T.C. Johnstone and narrated by Academy Award Winner and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Forest Whitaker, is about the first Rwandan National Cycling Team and their six year journey to the Olympic games in London. The story is not about the bike. It’s about second chances, how the past doesn’t have to define the future, and the impossible triumph of the human spirit over one of the world’s most devastating genocides. (Read the New Yorker article for an in depth story behind the story – http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/07/11/110711fa_fact_gourevitch)
The film is the evening event of Napa Bike’s first annual BIKE FEST on Saturday April 28th. Bike Fest will take place at Copia’s South Parking lot – the day offers rides (of course), contests (track stand and more), Kidical Mass (a great family event), a bike swap, live music (the BEST of Napa!) and more – check out http://www.napabikefest.org.
Napa Bike (Napa County Bicycle Coalition) is proud to announce an exclusive, work in progress screening of the documentary “Rising from Ashes” as the evening feature film during Napa’s Bike Fest on April 28th, 2012. Donations for the film and wine reception, sponsored by Clif Family Winery, are $25 and will be shared between Napa Bike and Team Rwanda. The film will be screened at the Copia Screening Room followed by a Q&A session with Director T.C. Johnstone and Producer Greg Kwedar.
