Do you like pink?  There’s going to be a lot of pink in this stage race!

Just recently, the stages for the Giro d’Italia Femminile 2012 were announced.  Their website is now updated with some new information about the upcoming mega Italian race.  Just like the Giro for the men, there’s a lot of climbing in this stage race.  Evelyn Stevens (Specialized Lululemon) announced informally on stage after wearing her new overall winner’s jersey of the Exergy Tour 2012, that she will be racing the Giro d’Italia Femminile.  It isn’t sure if she will be racing as part of USA team or Specialized Lululemon team. Start list or official team announcement isn’t posted yet so stay tuned.  Race is from June 29 – July 7.  There are 9 stages total with only one early individual time trial in stage 2 so expect sprint and mountain stage battles.

Marianne Vos will not be defending her pink jersey in the Giro d’Italia Femminile to prepare for the Olympics, however she is now also recovering from a broken collarbone.  The good news is, she won’t go under the knife just proper healing.  Vos dominated last year’s Giro and there is no doubt that she can dominate again if it was on her schedule.  Vos’ early season wins in this year proved that.

10 strong teams plus invited teams will compete in this brutal race.  Despite economic problems along with some non-payment problems from last year’s Giro, the organizers gave this another go this year.  Good news for all the Giro Donne fans!

Hey, didn’t Claudia Hausler just won the final stage of the Exergy Tour 2012?  Nicole Cooke won in 2004 and USA’s Mara Abbott won it in 2010.  Cool!
