To make it as one of the few women owner managers in the cycling business Nicola Cranmer has to be as focused and driven as the riders she is supporting. During this hourlong interview Cranmer discusses a wide variety of topics including the UCI age limit for women’s teams, junior development, and what it’s like working with top athletes like Kristin Armstrong and Shelley Olds. Cranmer’s efforts as a team manager/owner have enabled a generation of women cyclists to pursue professional racing careers both domestically and abroad. With two members of the team medaling in the 2012 London games, Kristin Armstrong (Gold – ITT) and Lauren Tamayo (Silver – Team Pursuit), Cranmer exceeded all expectations about what her squad could accomplish. With the 2016 Olympic games a mere four years away Cranmer is updating the teams mission and shaking up the roster with an eye on rider development. For anybody thinking about the Olympics or running a team this podcast is an inside look on the sacrifices and skills needed to succeed.
