BASP’s tenth season is fast approaching its final event with CCCP CycloCross at Coyote Point, on Sunday, 9 December. The weather over the past week created excellent conditions for muddy cyclocross; although this Sunday’s racing is expected to run dry and under sunny skies, the ground may still have a variety of levels in grip.

The signature feature of the CCCP course is the Clif Bar Beach Run at the edge of the Bay. With high tide shortly after 8am on Sunday morning, the early races may well see runners “picking seaweed from between toes,” forewarns Tom Simpson. It could become an opportunity for ‘crossers to raise their game and stay on the bike.

The ‘spritual home’ of Bay Area Super Prestige Cyclocross has a mix of surfaces and the changes in elevation are more than any other BASP-event this season. Cyclocross season rapidly approaches the end of the year and opportunities to race are dwindling. Sunday will be a good day for cyclocross, as any cyclocross day is a good day.
