Cyclocross season is coming to a close (but not quite yet!) and we just witnessed an awesome Elite Men and Women’s USA National Championship racing live from USA Cycling on Sunday! It was muddy, icy, cold and full of high caliber racers. Katie Compton as usual proved to be the best of the best, however the biggest surprise is Jade Wilcoxson’s second place on the podium! Where the heck did she come from? Crazy as it sounds, she reminds me of Marianne Vos’ multi-talented skills of road racing, track and cyclocross. Is Jade going to race the CX World Championships in Louiseville?
BTW, did you miss watching the race live, check out replays, highlights and interviews here.
Big news just this week on CX Worlds, apparently Katie Compton’s World Cup overall win may give the USA another spot in the Elite womens field at the CX World Championship in Louisville, KY. Amy Dombroski (Telenet) and Meredith Miller (Cal Giant-Specialized) will earn enough points from the World Cup races to get the first two spots, and Olympic mountain bike bronze medalist Georgia Gould (Luna) will likely to take the 3rd spot and the 4th spot is up for grabs. Bruno-Roy (Bob’s Red Mill-Seven), Crystal Anthony (Cyclocrossworld.com), Nicole Duke (Alchemy), Elle Anderson (LadiesFirst) and Teal Stetson-Lee (Luna), if they apply may qualify for the spot so it’s most sensible for Wilcoxson to also apply to race pretty much the race of her life?! CX Worlds for the women is going to be one exciting race to watch! Don’t forget February 2 and 3!
Also, just as exciting Louisville, KY USA will be the first World Championship race that men and women will get equal prizing per UCI.
Today, Nicole Cooke announced her retirement from professional cycling and left us with a story about her life as a woman professional cyclist, glories, dreams of a young girl to ride the Tour de France, her challenges, her support system specially her father, the temptations in doping etc. This will be something good to chat about in this week’s episode with our guest coach…
