    February 4, 2013;  Clovis, CA.

SBRacing presented by Steven’s Bicycles will begin the 2013 competitive cycling season with some exciting new additions to the roster. In addition to an Elite Racing Team, the USA Cycling Club has become a magnet for new riders entering the sport, and SBRacing continues to promote competitive cycling in Central California through the creation of new events like the Clovis Criterium Training Series and the new for 2013 Clovis Criterium Racing Series.

SBRacing is the largest bicycle racing club in the Fresno/Clovis area with 24 members holding a USA Cycling racing license. In addition to six returning members, the Elite Race Team of the SBRacing Club is proud to announce that one of Northern California’s most accomplished road racers will be joining the club with a special emphasis; Mary Maroon will join as Captain of a women’s development program the club is launching this season. In addition to helping new female racers navigate the waters of the local race scene, Mary will race a full calendar of women’s races including Road Nationals in Madison, WI; and she will support SBRacing at local events by racing in all categories for which she is eligible.

Jon Stewart, SBRacing Club President, said, “We are very excited to have Mary join our club. Developing a program for women has been one of our main goals, and we have been working with Mary to accomplish that goal, so when the opportunity came along to have her race in our kit we didn’t hesitate to get her on the team. We will do whatever it takes to support her goals this year, and we know she will make SBR look good all year long.”

“To be a part of a team that is active about growing our sport and values my contribution feels really good,” Maroon said. “In addition to working with SBR on much needed women’s development in the central valley, I get the freedom to choose my own race calendar and guest ride at national level events. I know this club will support me 100% and am looking forward to saying thanks by racing my bike hard all year.”

“Our focus this year is to race all of the local events and represent our sponsors well, while making it easy for new riders to get involved with this awesome sport of bicycle racing,” Stewart continued. “Mary fits right in there and we have a deep roster of riders here that do so as well. This will mark an epoch for valley racing.”

Other standout riders in the SBRacing roster include Josh “Junior” Cox who made short work of his passage from Cat 5 into the higher ranks with two victories and multiple podiums in his rookie year, and a team of veteran racer’s will line up to support this smart young athlete. The team also has several SBRecruits: new Cat 5 riders who have entered the new club-team magnet system with the support of long time racers to guide them through the often murky world of local bicycle racing.  Among the names to watch: Winson Hong, who showed in his very first road race ever that among his peers he is at the front of the class with a strong second place finish earlier this season at the Early Bird Road Race.

The club will continue to work to promote competitive cycling in the area through the creation of new events for anyone who is interested in bicycle racing. And after closing out a very successful second season of Clovis Criterium Training Series, the club is now launching a new competitive road race series: the Clovis Criterium Racing Series beginning March 17.
