Club and Kick-Off Ride Proudly Sponsored by Kovarus and Danville Bike; Special Guest Cycling Champion Freddie Rodriguez

San Ramon, Calif., March 11, 2013Kovarus, Inc., a leading systems integrator specializing in increasing IT efficiency by architecting and integrating business-aligned IT solutions, today announced that it will be sponsoring a local cycling club in conjunction with Danville Bike to raise awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Danville Bike/Kovarus Club kick-off ride will take place on April 14th in Danville. Proceeds will benefit the Pete Zucker Foundation aimed at raising awareness for ALS and finding a treatment for this incurable disease.

In April of 2010, Zucker, an elite athlete and member of the Kovarus/Wells Fargo Cycling team, was diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a progressive terminal disease, and once diagnosed the typical lifespan is 2-5 years. The disease affects all voluntary muscles, including the respiratory system, which take away one’s ability to breathe and leads to death. As Zucker enters the final stages of ALS, his family and friends are more committed than ever to bringing attention to this little-known disease which receives very little funding for research.

“It is very difficult to slowly watch someone you love dying and even harder to know that inside of Pete’s dying body is a mind that is 100% clear,” said Monica Mazzocco, wife of Pete Zucker and the event organizer.  “We wanted to do something, and we wanted to reach out to the cycling community which Pete loved so much.  Cycling was his passion.  Now, we can remember and think of Pete on every ride, and know that every time one puts on the cycling jersey and shorts, they are riding with a purpose.  Every ride has meaning, knowing that they are supporting the fight against ALS.”

What: Kick-off Ride for members of the Danville Bike/Kovarus Club. The club is comprised of a casual group of cyclists riding with a purpose: to raise awareness and support the fight against ALS while having fun and getting fit.

    Highlights of the event include:

    • No Drop Ride (A and B groups) 15-20 miles
    • Refreshments and raffle prizes, including:
    • Ride one on one with Freddie Rodriguez
    • 500.00 gift certificate to Danville Bike

    • Giant Bike

Where: Ride begins at Danville Bike, 175 Hartz Ave, Danville, CA 94526

    When: Sunday, April 14th 2013, 9:00 a.m. PT

Registration: Join the club at danvillebike.zaavy.com where you can purchase your club cycling kit. A portion of proceeds will go to benefit ALS research. Please register by March 20th to ensure delivery of your club cycling kit by the event.

“We are so proud to be able to support the Pete Zucker Foundation and its commitment to ALS awareness and research in this way,” said Peter Castaldi, principal and co-founder of Kovarus. “Giving back to the community has always been an integral part of Kovarus’ mission. Our connection to Pete as a friend and former member of the Kovarus/Wells Fargo Cycling Team makes our involvement in this meaningful event even more poignant.”
