Known locally for the much loved Stafford Lake and Lion of Fairfax cyclocross races as well as the 2011 and 2012 epic Singlespeed CX Worlds events, Murphy Mack and his band of merry helpsters are blowing the 2013 CX scene wide apart with the introduction of the Norcal CX Series.
NCCX will be a five-event series with races throughout the Bay Area. You may already be familiar with two of the events in the series (the aforementioned Stafford Lake and Lion of Fairfax), but Mack and Superpro have added new races to the docket – the “Kitten of Vallejo” and the “San Jose Cougar”— to make up the entire series. Grrr, meow. Notably, the San Jose event will be held on a freshly minted CX course that Mack and race advocate (and San Jose resident) Joe Carpenter have been actively working with the city of San Jose to turn into a bike park. In an interesting twist for the series, the fifth race will be held in a location to be determined by the votes of the series racers, as the organizers promise.
Mack tells me a website for the series will be up “soon” but in the meantime, he’s encouraging racers to stay abreast of updates by way of the NCCX Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NorcalCX. We’re super excited to see another highly legit series added to the local scene – should make for an awesome upcoming 2013 season in the Bay Area.
