As I was riding yesterday I was stunned to learn the news that Amy Dombroski had been killed while training in Belgium. While we had met several times, and I had the pleasure to watch her race across the country on many occasions, I never got to kn0w her very well. I regret that I never struck up more of a conversation, and feel horribly for her family and close friends, who now must weather the loss. If you are not familiar with her career, or recent racing in Belgium ,several journalists have written great memorials to her achievements and personality.

Amy had several ties to NorCal, including stints riding cross for Velo Bella, and riding professionally on the Webcor team. Former teammate, Katheryn Curi Mattis is organizing a memorial ride this coming Sunday.
“Okay, for those of Amy Dombroski friends in the Mountain View, CA area, I will be leading a ride out of Los Altos Peet’s on State St. this Sunday. We will meet at 10am and roll out for a yet to be determined amount of time and yet to be determined route (I’ll probably try and find some dirt to ride but don’t fear, you will be fine on a road bike). Please share with others.” ~ KCM’s Facebook Page
The friends of Amy have set up a memorial fund in Amy’s name to help her family and to be used in her memory. Donations can be dropped off at Pro Peloton in Boulder or mailed to:
