NorCal Cycling News Holiday Story: Be Careful Out There Deer

Hunter and The Deer Part Ways

I don’t care if this is lame, but I like this story a lot. Like the way Alice’s Restaurant gets played on the radio, in its entirety on Thanksgiving Day in some city I used to live in, I can’t even remember which one, I trot out this crazy story on special occasions. It makes me thing of the holidays. It must be the combination of the deer (hunting season), the group ride of good friends, and the miracle that ensued. It should make all you group riders think about the friends you will go riding with this week, staying safe, and how lucky we are to live in this cycling mecca.

Be Careful Out There Deer” was originally laid down by Hernando just over two years ago. The protagonist, A. Hunter, an all around nice guy and fun person to ride with, had a run in with a deer, and the subsequent story became one of the most popular posts of 2011. It is the ultimate tale of caution, luck, and skill all capped off with a Christmas miracle.  I’m committed to bringing the story back each year on either Thanksgiving or Christmas as a #nccn Holiday tradition.  If anybody wants to narrate it I’d be up for creating an audio post that can be played each Christmas. Sounds like a perfect job for an out of work race announcer.  I know there are a few of you out there.
