Want to support women’s bike racing in Northern California this week? There’s a lot you can do over the next week or two, so start planning now. Here are my top suggestions.

    1. Are you a female road racer? Sign up for the Mariposa Women’s Stage Race, to take place in two weekends, May 16-18. This is the only all-women’s stage race around, as far as I know, making for lots of categories, and a great race weekend environment. If you’re planning on coming out for this one, don’t delay; sign up now – please show the race promoter that the event will have attendance so he doesn’t have to wonder if he should cancel it. Find the registration link here.

    2. Attend the Tour of California’s pro women’s events. There’s a circuit race in downtown Sacramento following the start of the men’s stage 1 rollout on Sunday, May 11th, and a time trial in Folsom on Monday, May 12th, on the same course as the men’s stage 2 event. Showing the TOC promoters and the general public that there is plenty of interest in women’s bike racing through crowd support is invaluable. Hopefully more information about the women’s stages will soon be posted here.

    3. Attend the Davis Bike Club Women’s Development Program fundraiser in Davis on Sunday evening, May 11th, a screening of “Half The Road”, a new documentary film on women’s pro cycling. With the goal of getting more women on bikes and encouraging riders of all levels, DBC’s WDP is led by Robin Farina, also president of the Women’s Cycling Association. Bob Roll (who also narrates the film) will MC the event, and the film’s director, Kathryn Bertine, will be on hand. Tickets can be purchased online; more information here.

That’s just a partial list, as there are numerous other events and fundraisers coming up. Thanks for supporting women’s bike racing!
