Bubba Melcher finally sees his hoped-for 3-day/4-stage race get underway with the Diamond Valley Road Race, the opener to this year’s Little City Stage Race. Warm weather, strong winds, a symbol of armageddon, and tough racing were the order of the day as Alison Tetrick (Twenty16) and Colin Joyce (Cal Giant) took the spoils for, respectively, Women P/1/2 and Men P/1/2.
More on the sign of the apocalypse to come tomorrow with Ellen Sherrill’s race coverage.
Melcher’s aim for the stage race is to give back to the sport by putting on an outstanding regional race particularly for Juniors and Masters. With 40 Junior racers registered this year, the event is well on its way to seeing another important stage race spanning Northern California and Northern Nevada.
Day 2 moves to the Fernley Speedway for the 4-mile Fernley Circuit Race. The final day, on Sunday, 22 June, returns to Diamond Valley for a 10-mile, out-and-back Time Trial. The Downtown Minden Criterium, running in parallel some 15 miles away, is a 0.8-mile course.
