The forecast is for temperatures to approach triple digits this Saturday, 12 September, for the West Sac Cyclocross Grand Prix presented by Cederon. Event organizers are urging competitors and spectators to prepare well for the heat, stay cool, and well hydrated. A release from the organizers indicates racers may carry water and receive water from the pit and describes efforts to help mitigate the heat.
From the WSCXGP Facebook site:
“HEAT. WSCXGP Racers — we know this weekend is going to be unusually hot for a cyclocross race, even one in Sacramento. We know its not ideal weather, but we are making efforts to mitigate the heat as much as we can and make your race safe and fun. First, our USAC Chief Referee has given the OK in accordance with Rule 4A15 to provide water to racers from the pit and/or for you to keep extra water there (note: put water cages on your bike and ride with water…there will be no major shouldering needs… also water bottles on a spare bike if you bring one are OK and recommended too). The race will provide at least two misting tents with water and ice buckets to help cool you down after the race. As with all races EMTs will be on course, however, we also encourage you to be aware of signs of heat illness and be cognizant of your own tolerance to physical activity in such conditions. Your health should be your top priority — race safe, have fun, and stay within your limits. We hope you and your teams will help us cool the race by bringing extra pop-ups, extra water, and encouraging one another to drink and stay shaded when not racing, and coming up with other fun ways to beat back this late, ill-timed, heatwave.“
