SCHEDULE - MAY 9th:

Sorry for the delay, but here is the Friday Night Race Schedule for May 9th (please note, each Friday Night will have it’s own flair and schedule, with the exception of standing events of Sprints, Women’s Points, and Masters Scratch). It’s a short night, built around getting folks in and out of the track to still enjoy their evening. Tell your friends and family that spectating will be high on the fun meter as we jam through the night.

schedule: http://ridethetrack.com/pdf/fridays_08.pdf
We have a committee who will be reviewing the sprint lists and I’ll publish pre-reg’d starters asap. These are high profile events for our Friday Nights … so please send in your name immediately if you want to be racing(even if you’ve been contacted already, please)! The Sprint Series standings will likely be points based with best 3 out of 6 Friday Night events counting towards the overall, with series standing leaders given preference to the Friday Night Final 9/19.
***Masters - we will try and separate out the 40+ and 50+ fields if we have enough entrants per night.
****Junior Riders are encouraged to race to their category and as per the discretion of their parents/coaches/promoter.

Rain cancels, of course.
Cash and merchandise prizes for all categories per night. Primes will be out there, as well (lantern rouge primes are definite possibilities). There will be year long series standings and awards for the Sprints, Women’s Points, and Masters Scratch. There will not, however, be a nightly omnium.
May 9th we’ll have live music, 6-7pm from Kenny Schick. He plays the guitar with soulful percussion and has some amazing lyrics to keep you swinging. You can check out some of his music here.
There will also be some nice beverages and snacky foods for folks to enjoy while they listen to music, watch some great racing, and soak in our famous “hellyer golden-sunset”.

UPDATED INFO FOR May 9th opener to your 2008 Friday Night Races at Hellyer Park Velodrome:
(please contact me if you’ve any specific questions regarding the night)
Masters Scratch Series event is for category 1-4 riders 40+ and 50+. If we get ten (10) 50+ entries, we will start a separate race for them. If not, they’ll be raced with the 40s.
Category 4 riders are able to enter the 3/4, 40+ Inverse Win-n-Out and Miss-n-Out. Please note, if you are a 40+ rider, you’ll need to be a category 4 and above rider. My apologies for the lack of clarification.
If you are a category 4 rider under 40, the only two races of the evening available to you this Friday are the Win-n-Out and Miss-n-Out. However, each Friday will have a different schedule, so please look for notices on this e-list and ridethetrack.com for each Friday Night’s schedule.
PLEASE NOTE: if you are a local category 4 track rider and competitive in the ‘B’ events at Hellyer, you are fine to race these events (May 9th Win-n-Out and Miss-n-Out). Again, if you’ve any question at all about coming out to Fridays … just email me. The key is - safe, strong, fun. Do that, and you’re invited to any Friday Night.
Women of Hellyer: you have 2 separate races for this Friday and you are welcome to enter the other categorized events as well ~ please come out and show us a good time. The Women’s races on May 9th are category 1-3, however I am accepting category 4’s upon application. For example, there are a number of women i’ve seen racing/training this spring at Hellyer that are 4’s and that I want racing Friday Night. They are safe, strong, and absolutely the type of people we want showcased at Hellyer on Friday Nights.
So, if you are a category 4 woman who has been competitive in the (very fast) C events thus far this year, i do hope you’ll come out and race.
VIBE
Thanks again for all the input on race scheduling for our Fridays. We’ll adjust after each Friday event, so please keep your feedback coming. For this opening Friday May 9th, what i’m really hoping we’ll do is get a gauge on how folks feel about coming out to Friday Nights at Hellyer. These Friday Nights are definitely RACE events, however - we also have the opportunity for them to be nights to go out and meet some knew and interesting people.
This year we’re trying to bring in new folks from clubs/cycling groups who haven’t historically been exposed to the track. What my hope is, is that we can create a Friday Night vibe of absolute inclusion. This is YOUR track, come out and have fun at it.
REGISTRATION:
Registration will be open all night, just try and get your game on early and efficiently. But Reg will be in the infield, so there’s plenty of time/space to communicate all we need.
Please note, we’re going to have 35 rider field limits for the mass start events. And yes, i’ll add fields if we have more people show up. Trust me, if you show up for Friday Nights and want to race … i’ll get you in there. I mean, do they offer upgrade points for the KiddieKilo?
I’m going to be at the track very early on Friday to setup the tents/food/drink/music. If you want to arrive anytime after 5pm, the track will be open.
The Infield - please note, the infield will be open to all. There will be staff at the one (1) track entrance at all times. They will have absolute authority to inform me of anyone needing to be heckled publicly. So, what i’m saying is - we’ll all be using common sense and good cheer as we traffic people in/out of the track.
The stands will be were the food/drink is, however.
PRIZES:
Joe Fineman has procured almost a $Grand in Peet’s gift certificates for this year’s Friday Night Races. Thanks Joe! Look for loads of these things to be tossed at you. Joe will also be getting in a similar amount of CLIF product for prizes after July. AWESOME!
Cash/merchandise prizes will be awarded for each event. There will also be primes for certain events of the night … look especially for the coveted “Lantern Rouge” prime in the mass starts.
Please note: to pick up awards, please see the registration table immediately after the results are posted and called official.
There will be no Omnium of the night for these Friday Night Races. I know, another tradition breaker. However, we ARE tracking a Friday Night Series competition in the Match Sprints, Women’s Points, and Master’s Scratch. Scoring system will be up at ridethetrack.com … soon ~ but, it will be a best x out of 7 events (likely 4 out of 7) with ties broken on final night placings.
Live Music - and again, Kenny Schick will be playing live from 6′ish to the start of races. Good tunes to warm up to, and good to listen to if you’re setting up your spectator’s camp for the evening.
Again, any questions please contact me.
