A sad day. Chris was a great competitor, always in the right place at the right time. Not much more I can say.

I knew Christopher in a whole different light. I met Chris 8 years ago when I met his brother Michael. Mike & I dated for 7 1/2 yrs and I got to know Chris outside of the cycling world. He was always such a prankster with me and seemed so serious. It was sometimes hard to figure him out. He, like Hernandito had mentioned in his blog, would give me that crazy-eye stare and then would burst out laughing like a crazy man. I would just laugh along with him. He could be very stern, but then loving at the same time. He comforted me when I couldn’t get it out of Mike. I haven’t seen Chris & Lorraine in several months and have missed them dearly & am so sorry for Lorraines loss as well as Mikes. I’m still in shock over this as is many of you are. I will always remember Christopher and his dry, but yet hilarious sense of humor. May he rest in peace. I love you & I’ll miss you Chris.

Wow. I didn’t know Chris in person, but rather had come to know him online over the past 10 months. This is a pretty big shock. Sorry I never got to know him better. RIP.

Chris was a wonderful quick witted person. His passion for ridding his road bike on dirt trails on Skyline always made things interesting. His ability to race in the P12 consistently throughout the years shows amazing dedication and love of the sport of cycling. He was a generous kind person. We always spoke of having him over to our place for dinner. Unfortunately, it never happened. Very sad day. RIP.

The arcane and the sublime Legend of The Hippstar…Chris was a best friend and Labor Teammate from 1994. Chris was understood by few, but respected/admired/entertained by many. A complex cat with many layers. With Chris and Lorraine, I was fortunate to travel to the south of France, then Barcelona Spain the last two Octobers. Some people say the Hippster had a European style…those who knew him better believed he had an Extra Terrestrial Style. He was the steely Marvel Comics character, Captain Nimrod…visiting us less advanced human Nimrods from a far away Planet Nimrodicus in a far away galaxy. That’s how he was able to communicate with Birds on this planet. Hippstar lived his life in graceful Flight. Soaring, diving, arcing, whirlybirding like a cosmic prankster in the sky.
He truly loved his common-law-wife Lorraine. They had a wonderful love and mutual fanship.
Man…I have not purged this much since my Dad passed.
Chris. You Oak. You Legend. You Masterpiece. I love you.
keep us Socal and Texas (and beyond) riders alert on arrangements/rides…
For those in Cali who got to know Chris in his time out there, I can tell you we have similar stories and experiences with Chris in TX from the 80′s and 90′s when he lived there. I will remember all of the fun times we had racing, as fast as he was when you got to know him, you should have seen him in his younger days Chris was an interesting individual, unique in his ways, but if you took the time to get to know him, you could not help but love the guy. Glad to see him flourish the past few years in his computing ventures. I know in my interactions with him, he was having the time of his life out in Cali, riding as much as he could, spending time with Loraine and his close friends out there. Saw him about a year ago in Dallas at the lake, we joked that we would ride in 7 years the next time he was in town. Chris, won’t forget some of the trips we took, fun times and lasting memories. Stay strong and hope to see you again on the other side – we will get that ride in.

Argh…My husband Evan knew Chris better than I, but I did have a few conversations with him and could easily see his unique style and charactor. According to all accounts of those who knew him well, he was an extraordinary person. I think David Worthingtons post was probably the most accurate discription of Chris’ nature. Well said! I’m sure Davids brother Roger is just devastated. Like losing a limb, or all limbs! Yeah, a huge LABOR loss. He’ll be missed by those that were fortunate enough to know him well, and those for whom he had only briefly encountered. Thats how special Chris Hipp was. Thanks Chris for all your energy & good karma. You can rest knowing you made this world a better place. Thank you.
