Kern County may be canceled … so, pre-reg by end of this week
The promoter of the event needs all to pre-reg who will want to go to Kern County and participate in this beautiful beast. As someone who has driven and fed water bottles at this race for a bunch of years … it really is an awesome weekend of racing.
And … all racers get t-shirts!
.
So, if you’re not going to dive bomb the final corner at Cat’s Hill or chase big dollars at the Scott’s Valley Grand Prix … be sure to pre-reg for Kern County asap.

If you have a mother, girlfriend, wife, sister, cousin etc…going to do the race, make the trip out and support them. Your ability to suffer during races goes way up after watching what all of those women put themselves through out in Bako. Fantastic event to watch and support. Nothing like standing in the feedzone trying to hand out 25 bottles and cheer people on at the same time to make a fun weekend out of it.

I think that the last sentence/paragraph is the key: Scott’s Valley and Cat’s Hill both have W4 and W 1/2/3 fields. In the past, promoters have avoided putting on Women’s fields against Kern in order to encourage those who can to make the trek to Bakersfield. The Modesto Crit and RR do not have Women’s fields for just that reason (admittedly they’re promoted by folks who work the rest of the season for Velo Promo).
About 22 registered now.

kern should have moved its date

Those crits seem to have been scheduled/designed partly to attract professional women who were expected to be around for the ToC crit, which is now kaput. Those other crits might not get the super high quality fields they hoped for given that cancellation. It is a bad scheduling deal all around.

Sadly Kern has been cancelled for 2011. But Robert and Velo Promo promise to work to bring it back bigger and stronger next season.
Thanks to everyone who registered and tried to keep this race alive for this year.

Sadly, it was the town of Los Gatos that determined the date for Cat’s Hill. LGBRC didn’t want it to conflict either but had no choice due to permits. Otherwise, our ladies elite team most definitely would have done Kern. It is a fabulous race.
