The NorCal Spring & Summer classics are over. July means one thing – Crit Season is upon us! To help sharpen that leg speed there are even a few high profile track races the serious crit monkeys can ride. Below are the events that are highlights on the NorCal Crit Season Calendar.
- Testarossa Velodrome Challenge: Hipster rave with bikes
- Davis 4th of July Crit: Technical and Hot as hell
- San Rafael Twilight: Project Sport Crit! So. Much. Fun!
- Lodi Cycle Fest: These are new guys on the block but getting bigger/richer every year
- Watsonville/Berkeley/Colavita Crits: The Cross Bay Series – we should have a prize for folks that can podium each races.
- Tour de Nez: Not quite all crits, but it is all cool.
In addition to all these tried and true venues there are a few newer events, like the Strawberry Crown Invitational Criterium, which look promising. Overall Big Pink, note the new URL, should be a busy man in July with some form of a crit going almost every weekend. I might need to sponsor him with a NorCal Cycling News tattoo or something. He could totally rock a NCCN tramp stamp.
Summer Classics Review
Between Sattley TT and the Pesky RR the most consistent and dominant NorCal riders had to be Jesse Moore and Molly Van Houweling. Both riders stayed close to home while a lot of the young turks went on the road during June. Moore and Van Houweling both doubled up on the district championships by winning the TT (Sattley) and the RR (Pesky) and then went on to Nationals in Augusta, Ga and put in big rides. Moore just missed the top step in the road race at nationals capping a great run during the month of June. If you are looking for coach Moore Performance Coaching should be one of the first stops on your search.
The Other July Races – TDF & Giro Donne
There are a handful of NorCal riders and NorCal alumni riding the Giro Donne so we will try to get some updates from the front lines. If you have any thoughts on Le Tour you need to get off your chest shoot it this way. I am going to solicit posts from everybody I know to try and get a Tour post up each day. They will probably be boring till somebody busts out a positive so if you have an idea or got an desire to get an article or two up drop me a line at .
